Blackheads, what they are and how to get rid of them

Blackheads, what they are, causes and remedies. How to get rid of blackheads and prevent their appearance. From nutrition to the most effective remedies to fight pimples, blackheads and acne.

Blackheads, what they are and causes

THE blackheads, scientific name comedome, they are an ugly skin imperfection that occurs mainly on three localized areas of the face: nose, forehead, and chin. Their appearance is due to some wrong behaviors and habits both in cleansing the face and in nutrition. They occur when the skin becomes particularly oily, the pores dilate and the sebum obstructs the normal breathing of the skin, thus generating the blackhead.

The right diet to prevent the appearance of blackheads

Not everyone knows this, but nutrition also plays an important role in formation of blackheads. To prevent the appearance of blackheads it is good to follow a correct diet. I know, I know, you will have heard it until you pass out but the same rule applies here too: the diet must be rich in fruit and vegetables! Vitamins and mineral salts contained in fruit and vegetables are an important ally for the skin, and are also rich in water. Even the right hydration, in fact, fights the formation of blackheads: drinking the famous "8 glasses of water a day" helps the epithelial cells to stay healthy.

How to wash your face to eliminate and prevent blackheads

I warn you, if you have never washed your face with the right attention, this change will lead to initial imbalances but then the road will be all downhill.

People give little importance to facial hygiene but it is not enough that the skin is apparently clean! When washing your face, focus on the so-called "T zone". Rub the chin, rub the perimeter of the nose and forehead. Do this every day and even when you are in the shower. If you have very sensitive skin, you can do without using a soap but with normal skin, use a neutral based soap.

Oily skin, combination skin, blackheads, acne and pimples

If you have very oily skin, you can use a sulfur-based soap. Sulfur has many therapeutic properties, disinfects, detoxifies and works as a powerful anti-inflammatory capable of resolving various skin disorders: psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, acne, pimples and blackheads.

It works on several fronts, on the one hand it disinfects in a natural way and on the other it intensifies the activity of cortisol, the hormone responsible, among other things, for dilating blood vessels. The vessels, expanding, supply and nourish the skin cells, helping the correct expulsion of dead cells and any impurities.

To better tolerate sulfur soap, those with dehydrated skin will have to follow the advice seen above more scrupulously (eat fruit, vegetables and drink lots of water).

Where to buy sulfur soap? In health food stores, in the most well-stocked supermarkets or by taking advantage of online shopping. The only advice I can give you is to choose a natural soap, free from perfumes, parabens or other ingredients that damage the skin, preferably produced with cold saponification. Personally, I have tried different sulfur soaps always choosing natural ones, they are all very good so one brand, in my opinion, is as good as another. Among the various products on the market, I would like to point out two that have already been tested and selected because they are completely natural.

Can blackheads be crushed?

No. This practice is actually not recommended. Much better to play prevention with the two remedies I described above, namely:

  • thorough washing of the skin
  • possible use of sulfur-based soap for the most impure skin
  • proper hydration
  • proper nutrition

Many make the mistake of pressing on the basis of the black point but ... as stated, squeezing the black points is not healthy for the skin when you have valid alternatives as just explained.
By squeezing blackheads you risk further irritating the skin, causing acne or inflammation. If you just can't help but squash blackheads, at least do it right.

How to crush blackheads

Before intervening, it is preferable that you do a thorough cleansing of the face and then dilate the pores of the skin, here's how to squash blackheads correctly.

  1. Put a saucepan with water on the stove, even better if you add a few drops of tea tree essential oil to the water.
  2. As soon as it is about to boil, turn off and pour the mixture into another cold container. The water will begin to evaporate.
  3. Bring your face close to the container and create a small sauna-like environment by covering the head and the pan with a towel.
  4. Face the vapors released by the boiling water.
  5. After about 5 - 10 minutes you will be ready for the next operation.
  6. Before proceeding with the last decisive action, wash your hands well and to avoid direct contact of the nails with the skin, put a little sterile gauze on top.
  7. At this point, press on the black point so that all the content comes out of the hole. To complete this operation, disinfect your face with sulfur-based soap, perfect for its properties.
